If you’re looking for something truly unique, this coffee from the Sipi Falls microregion in Eastern Uganda is an absolute must-try - It’s not your average cup!

This special natural lot is co-fermented with locally sourced passionfruit, that is added to the fermentation vessel, giving it a bright, fruity flavour profile. So, for those of you partial to a passionfruit martini, look no further – this coffee brings that same, zesty vibe without the hangover.

The Producers

This coffee is grown by smallholder farmers in the Sipi Falls region, who supply their long term partners, the Zukuka Bora Coffee Company. Zukura process the coffee and purchase from farmers at a price that includes a dedicated premium to directly fund social projects in the community. Profits from Zukura's coffee sales go to help fund the JENGA Community Development NGO, who fund education, clean water initiatives and health programs in the local community. JENGA has been working in this region for nearly 20 years, making a huge difference in the lives of local families and farmers.

The Region

The Sipi Falls microregion itself has long been known for producing some of Uganda's best coffee. The rich volcanic soils of Mount Elgon, high altitudes, and generations of coffee-growing expertise create the perfect conditions for truly exceptional coffee. This area is famous for its Arabica beans, and it’s where coffee cultivation first took root in Uganda back in the 1920s.

Processing

This lot is co-fermented with passionfruit for 96 hours in an anaerobic environment, before being dried on raised beds for up to 30 days. The result is a cup with a beautiful balance, juicy sweetness, clean flavours, and a signature passionfruit zing. After drying, the beans rest for a month before being packaged for export.
