BREW GUIDE: CAFETIERE
It’s a brew method with so many names, but whether you call it a cafetière, plunger, French press or are one of those cheeky people who just mime a plunger going up and down at us, we’ve got you covered with this brewing guide.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
METHOD
A basic brew ratio for cafetière is 60g of coffee per litre of water. This recipe is perfect for two people, or two mugs of coffee.
-
30g of coarsely ground coffee
-
500g of water, just off boil
-
Brew time: 4 minutes
-
Place your French press on the scales and tare to zero.
-
Add your freshly ground coffee and tare again.
-
Add your hot water and leave for 4 minutes
-
Use a spoon to gently stir the crust. If you’re feeling extra fancy, you could skim any remaining residue from the top of the liquid.
-
Leave the brew to cool for another 5 to 6 minutes. This will allow it to reach perfect drinking temperature and to open up all those extra tasty flavours.
-
Add the plunger and gently press down.
-
Pour into your favourite coffee cup and enjoy!
