It’s a question that plagues us all every year: what’s the greatest gift you can give at Christmas?
Dubai Chocolate? Labubus?? Speciality coffee roasted with love and care in the Lake District???
Well we can go one better.
How about speciality coffee roasted with love and care in the Lake District that *also* supports women to be financially independent, expert farmers? Yeah, we thought so.
Luckily for you, that’s exactly what Santa Claus will be bringing down the chimney for our customers this year (provided you’re on the nice list, naturally).
This fully washed coffee comes from the members of the KCRS Women’s Cooperative in Rulindo, Rwanda. Most of the growers in this region are farming an average of six different crops on family-owned smallholder plots at incredibly high altitudes, growing the likes of legumes, beans and sweet potatoes in the shade of the coffee trees.
This ensures a diversified revenue source, meaning they’re not just reliant on income from coffee, and means they are providing a food source for themselves too.
The cooperative, organised and founded by the initiative of female producers with the support of Jacquie Turner at Kinini Washing Station, provides a range of support and training to members. This has allowed them to flourish, improve the quality of the coffee they produce and become expert coffee producers.
If this amazing coffee doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside this festive season, we don’t know what will (it’s definitely better than a Labubu).
